Angry Blue Headed Poinus (William)

Strange as it seems, our cat was our bird's best friend, he followed him everywhere. Since the death of the cat (last Sat) William has turned from being a loveable, handleable little bird to a vicious, angry parrot. We feel the loss of his mate has created this anger. We feel that we should find him another friend (not a cat), preferably another bird. Being retired funds are not that available, so we wondered if anybody has any suggestions regarding a low cost bird, as another Poinus would be too expensive. The alternative is to give him away to someone with other birds in an avery, which we are very reluctant to do. Any suggestions please regarding the type of bird that would live happily with William. We thought perhaps a parakeet - perhaps you know differently. Thank you.

So sorry to hear about the cat and how its affected William. I think it would upset him even more if you gave him to someone else. If it were me I would get another bird for company for him, but obviously in a separate cage and monitor them carefully until you are happy they will not fight. But don't expect William to accept another bird immediately and vice versa.
